Since 1975, we have been serving the community in the following ways:
RESPONSE: Coordinating properly executed volunteer response to emergencies requires competent authorities. The group has drawn recognition from authoritative bodies such as the Sûreté du Québec police force to aid officers during missing persons crises in urban, rural and wilderness regions throughout southwestern Quebec. Through affiliations with the Sûreté, SCR has managed to aid in the development of a network of volunteer search and rescue teams in many districts of Québec.
SERVICE ACTIVITIES: In order for our members to further develop their new skills and to allow the community to take advantage of the group's training, we take part in different activities such as: St-John-the-Baptist and Canada Day celebrations, the Mirabel Air Show, The Telethon for Research on Children's Diseases, hospital visits, sporting events, agricultural fairs, and so on.
PREVENTION: We are active in training programs (see our calendar of activities) as well as prevention programs. The free "Hug a Tree" program is aimed at children 4 to 12 years old and offers awareness on the risks of getting lost in the woods as well as survival measures to take when this happens. Other prevention tips we offer is how to avoid and treat dog bites.
We are members of Environment Canada's Foul Weather Volunteer Observers Network.
To fully prepare our community's emergency readiness, we help municipalities, industries and airports during disaster planning and prevention exercises. Our role in disaster simulations may involve makeup, acting and evaluators roles to add realism to the situations.
EDUCATION: Distribution of a vast array of specific or personalized training in fields related to emergency planning and response.
Preparation of exercises, simulations, seminars and conferences on emergency preparedness and search and rescue.
Participation in panel meetings on the standardization and/or improvement of response techniques.
